Competition description
Competition information briefing and start order draw with the contestants. Each contestant is issued with a start number, 1-? The two circuits are numbered 1 (left circuit) respective 2 (right circuit) and the lowest start number starts with circuit 1.
The competition is carried out along two parallel and identical circuits with a number of tasks to perform. 4 machines are available for the competition, 2 Valmet 840 and 2 Timberjack 1110. The machine brands are alternated by draw (machine 1 respective machine 2). Adjustment of the machine settings is not permitted.
Qualifying for the Cup (Machine 1):
All contestants compete in pairs according to a drawn start order. The lowest start number begins with circuit 1 (left). The timer is stopped when the coloured log is grappled. In the event of a time tie the contestant with the least time penalties wins. The eight best times (four in the School Championship) qualify for the final Cup round.
Practice: Each heat is started by the contestants unloading logs along the circuit as well as placing the blocks by the tower station.
Start: The start signal is given with a flag by an official who has eye contact with the contestants. By the start are 10 logs that are to be loaded one at a time. Along the circuit are more logs that are to be collected one at a time. In addition there is a station where contestants are to build a tower from a number of blocks. By the finish there is an unloading area to where the contestants drive up to on either side. On each side there are 7 logs that have to be loaded one at a time. In the middle of the unloading area there is a coloured log which the contestants have to grapple once they have completed loading the 7 logs. The first to grapple the coloured log wins the heat.
Time penalties: If more than one log is loaded at the same time a penalty of + 5 minutes is imposed. If the coloured central log is move out of position a +1 minute penalty is imposed. A +20 seconds penalty is imposed for each log that lies more than 20 cm away from the gate. A + 1 minute penalty is imposed for each collision with trees along the circuit. The tower must be standing before the contestant can move the machine onwards. If it falls down beforehand the contestant must rebuild it.
Cup competition quarter finals (Machine 2):
